Golf Course!

Scotts Corners Golf Course is a family friendly, public course, operating under new ownership as of January of 2021. The course, located in Montgomery, NY, has been a staple to the Hudson Valley; with rich history as an airfield and pilot school dating back to the 1930’s, to the official conversion to golf course made public in 1960.

Located on 300 acres, the 9 hole course features 3,011 yards of golf from the longest tees for a par of 36.

The course rating is 70.0 and it has a slope rating of 116.

Grounds and turf are being renovated; currently the course offers brand new greens, redone with the newest bent grass technology developed by Rutgers University. With constant care and attention to what is important to the community's golfers, Scotts Corners Golf Course is a wonderful place for all levels of golf.

Whether you are looking to bring the family or practice for an upcoming tournament in a relaxed and friendly environment, we welcome you to the course!

Scott's Corners Aviation Era

Walden Airport opens Memorial Day 1931. The operators listed as Roy Munroe & Tillson Flying Service, owned by Earl Tillson. A student of Munroe & Tillson, Pilot John Sanford, recalled the Tillson-Walden Airport being the de facto center of the regional aviation movement with frequent visits from Charles Lindbergh and Amelia Earhart! Tillson-Walden Airport in 1933 consisted of 3 Sod Runways, longest 2,960' N/S strip, on 96 acres with a single hanger NE of the runway intersection.

1945~ AAF Airfield Directory states Walden Airport as a 110 acre property, having a sod all way landing area, longest dimension being 3,200' N/S; 3 metal and wood hangers with the largest measuring 100'x30'. Photographed below is Ellen Stekert and the Walden Airport Hanger in August of 1945. Ellen had her first flight at this time!

1957~ USGA topo map depicts 'Newburgh-Walden Landing Field' as having 2 unpaved runways with several small buildings just NE of the runway intersection. The surrounding area was already depicted as a golf course. In 1958 the last aeronautical depiction of the Walden Airport showed 'Newburgh-Walden' as having a 3,000' unpaved runway. Still remaining a cross country stop for student pilots of the Christie Airport of New City, who would have to look out for golfers crossing the runway from one tee to the other!

1960~ Walden Airport officially closes in June. Ken Barnes, who's father owned the golf course at the time, recalls planes still flying in in the early 60's being quite excited to see a plane land one day just a few yards from the 1st tee!

1974~Aerial views show remaining hangers and recognizable airport circle markings.

1986~ USGS topo map continued to label Walden Airports 2 runways as landing strips.

2003~ Aerial Views show the 2 former grass runways and vintage 1930's hanger!

2006~ Road maps labeled Walden Airport as Scott's Corners Golf Course!
